What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work as expected and to give the people who run them information about how the site is being used.
Cairnpost's website uses a small number of cookies. This page explains what they are, why we use them, and how you can control them.
Cookies we use
Essential cookies
Always active
These cookies are required for the website to function. They enable things like the cookie consent banner to remember your choice, and basic security features. They cannot be switched off.
Examples: cookieConsent preference storage · Duration: persistent (up to 12 months)
Analytics cookies
Optional
These cookies help us understand how visitors move around the site — which pages are viewed, how long people stay, and where they arrive from. The data is aggregated and does not identify individual visitors.
Examples: Google Analytics (_ga, _gid) · Duration: up to 2 years
Marketing cookies
Optional
These cookies are used to show relevant information to people who may have visited our site before, through advertising networks. We use them only when a paid campaign is active.
Examples: Google Ads, Meta Pixel · Duration: up to 90 days
Preference cookies
Optional
These cookies remember choices you have made on the site — such as your preferred language or region — so you do not have to re-select them on your next visit.
Examples: language preference, display settings · Duration: up to 12 months
Manage your preferences
Use the toggles above to set your preferences, then save. Alternatively, use the buttons below to accept or decline all optional cookies at once.
Third-party cookies
When analytics or marketing cookies are enabled, third-party services may set their own cookies on your device. These services have their own privacy and cookie policies:
- Google Analytics — usage statistics. Google Privacy Policy
- Google Ads — campaign measurement when active. Google Ads Policy
- Meta (Facebook) Pixel — advertising reach measurement when active. Meta Privacy Policy
Cookie duration
Cookies fall into two categories by duration:
- Session cookies — deleted automatically when you close your browser. Used for temporary site functionality.
- Persistent cookies — remain on your device until they expire or you delete them. Durations for each type are noted in the sections above.
